Today's Country Tidbits

The American Music Awards happened last night, and Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum all won awards. For her second time, Taylor Swift took home the top honor at the AMAs - Artist of the Year. She also won Favorite Country Album for "Speak Now" and Favorite Country Artist. Taylor's advice to aspiring musicians? "I think the advice that I would give is to see your hero and get inspiration from all your heroes, but try to be something different from all your heroes." Lady Antebellum won for Favorite Country Band, Duo or Group and Blake Shelton won Favorite Male Country Artist. The Band Perry performed "If I Die Young" and were up for the New Artist award, but didn't win.

Blake Shelton is known for his outrageous behavior on Twitter, though he's toned it down just a little bit since marrying Miranda Lambert. He still uses Twitter to tickle his fans: “It’s fun when you can find somebody that you can talk trash to, and I think fans love that, and if they take it seriously, then they need to go listen to jazz or something and stop listening to country, because we don’t take ourselves that serious, you know? We have fun and we say ridiculous stuff.”

Martina McBride hosts an adoption awareness special on CBS December 21st. "A Home for the Holidays With Martina McBride" will feature performances by Martina, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige and more stars from other music formats. The special highlights American families with fostered and adopted members. This is the 13th year this show has aired, and one of the families featured in the show this year decided to adopt a child after watching the holiday special five years ago.

Keith Urban recorded a thank-you video for his fans before having vocal chord surgery and going on complete vocal rest.


Last week, Miranda Lambert was on the Chelsea Lately show on E!, and as you might suspect, the two girls had a blast together.
