Today's Country Tidbits
Joe Nichols' "Gimme That Girl" is his fourth career #1 song and eighth top ten hit. So what's a guy gotta do when that happens? “I’m touring heavy. Fairs and festivals, you know. Summertime and country music. Later on in the year I think we have a big tour we’re going to hook up with. I can’t say who, because I don’t know if it’s a final deal yet.”
Garth Brooks will perform a benefit concert with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony in Idaho on August first. It's the symphony's only fund-raiser of the year (no pressure, Garth!!) and ticket info will be available at the symphony's web site.
Wynonna's teaming up with Cracker Barrel to support the Wounded Warrior Project. Pick up "Love Heals" at Cracker Barrel starting on May 24, or pre-order it now.
Martina McBride was planning to take her "Shine All Night" tour to the UK and Norway this summer, but those plans have fallen through, due to logistical issues. Fans will have the money they've paid for tickets refunded, and Martina hopes to reschedule the tour "sooner rather than later."
Meanwhile, Lady Antebellum took a night off the road and took in a Taylor Swift concert. They couldn't believe how loud the screams were for Taylor, and took notes on great ideas to incorporate in their first headlining tour, which they hope will be this fall.
Lady Antebellum is part of Good Morning America's summer concert series, performing on the show August 17th. They're not the only country artists, though - Sugarland will perform on May 28th, and the show's producer says to expect more artists to be announced.
Darryl Worley is in the middle east, entertaining the troops on a "Stars for Stripes" tour, while Chris Young is starting a one-year term on the Board of Directors of "Stars for Stripes." Darryl and his band will perform several full shows while in Iraq, and there'll be smaller, acoustic shows for the men and women at forward operating bases.
Wanna help the troops, and love Zac Brown Band? They've teamed up with Ram trucks to give free music to fans who write a letter to a US soldier. Starting Saturday, write a letter to a deployed military member, drop it by a Dodge Ram truck dealer, and while supplies last, get a free copy of Zac Brown Band's "Breaking Southern Ground" CD, with three new songs on it. The goal is to send a million letters overseas via the "Letters for Lyrics" campaign.
It's the tweet of the week, and it's only Wednesday! Miranda Lambert tweeted: "Cleaning Blakes house thoughts... by Miranda Lambert....what do vegans decorate their houses with?"
Keith Urban and John Mayer taped a CMT Crossroads way back in January, and it will finally make it to air on June 18th. Expect to see them do duets on "Til Summer Comes Around," "Sweet Thing," "Perfectly Lonely," and "Gravity."
Shania Twain, Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts are on American Idol tonight.
