Today's Country Tidbits

The opening song of the CMA Music Awards next Wednesday night will be Kenny Loggins and Blake Shelton performing "Footloose." When Blake was pitched the concept of being part of the "Footloose" soundtrack, producers came to him with another song. But it was only the Kenny Loggins classic that Blake was interested in covering. “I wanted to do ‘Footloose’ or I wasn’t gonna be a part of the soundtrack, you know? And, it wasn’t like, ‘By God...’ I just said, that’s the only one I’d be interested in doin’.” Other collaborations that night include Kenny Chesney & Grace Potter, Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts & Natasha Bedingfield, Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Lionel Ritchie and Darius Rucker with Rascal Flatts. The show is a sell-out, filling 17,000 seats at Bridgestone Arena for next Wednesday night's show.

Brad Paisley's book, "Diary of a Player," came out yesterday, and the idea of it was born a year ago as he and co-author David Wild were writing the 2010 CMA Award show. “Last year, when we were writing the CMAs...he said ‘You should write a book about some of these things!’ And I realized that I needed to be able to read something like this when I was ten. There wasn’t anything like that that basically said, ‘Here’s what you can do if you practice,’ which is really what this book ought to be called…‘Brad Paisley: Here’s What You Can Do If You Practice.”

Congratulations to Toby Keith, who has the #1 country album this week with "Clancy's Tavern." The album is named after his Grandma Clancy, who had to work hard to raise her family after her husband died. According to Toby, “Nan moved off to Fort Smith, and in the late 40s, early 50s, became the first plant manager at Dixie Cup Factory…dominated a men’s world in the 50s. And then, she worked part-time taking cover charge at Billy Garner’s Supper Club. She bought her first house, she was a widow still, and she was working at that nightclub when she saw the opportunity to buy Billy’s out after working there for years.” And rumor has it that his song "Red Solo Cup" is about to get the Glee treatment - it's going to be featured in an upcoming episode.
