Today's Country Tidbits

What are you doing the middle of next month? Zac Brown Band is throwing a party and you're invited. The Southern Ground Music & Food Festival just got bigger, adding Eric Church to the bill on Sunday. The party happens at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC on October 21, 22, and 23, with tickets going on sale this Saturday. Now, you should know that Zac Brown Band doesn't appear on any of the performance schedules, but my guess is that they'll take the stage when they please, so you should probably get the three-day ticket package. By the way, gourmet meals will be prepared by Zac's executive chef, Rusty Hamlin, assisted by renowned chefs Sean Brock, Mike Lata and RJ Cooper.

Did you catch Taylor Swift's YouTube interview last week? Fans submitted more than 30,000 questions for the 42-minute event. One of the things Taylor discussed was the impact of social media on her career, explaining, "I grew up when that was about to set fire to the world. I was in 7th or 8th grade when everybody started having a profile online and it was all about who's your friend and who's commenting on who's page ... I think it's fantastic." I think she uses it for business better than nearly anyone else on the planet. Here's the interview, in case you missed it.

Oh, and details of Justin Bieber's punking of Taylor are being leaked, before the "Punk'd" episode she's featured in airs. Justin invited Taylor to his beach house, allegedly to write a song for his girlfriend, Selena Gomez. While there, he suggested they shoot off some fireworks, which made a nearby boat filled with wedding revelers "catch fire." Actually, the boat was filled with actors and the on-board fire was fake, but Taylor freaked out, fearing she'd ruined some innocent couple's special day. When Justin told her she'd been punk'd, she started laughing and said, "How could you do this to me?!” She forgave him, though...he performed with her that night in Los Angeles, and the two really did write a song together. No word on which one will record the song.

George Strait's new album, "Here for a Good Time," is out today. George's son Bubba is the one who talked him into this project - he co-wrote all of the album's 11 tracks. According to King George, “It was mainly Bubba’s influence. He decided that he wanted to write and he wanted to get me involved in it. And so, I kind of reluctantly did it at first, but found I really enjoyed doing it again.”

Tim McGraw is in talks to take the lead role in a remake of the movie "A Star is Born." Clint Eastwood is producing the new version of the 1976 classic, and apparently the shooting schedule is a bit up in the air, as Beyonce had been tapped to be the female lead, but she's due to give birth in February of 2012, just when shooting was supposed to start.

Sunday night, Martina McBride, Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker helped raise over $60 million during the MDA Labor Day telethon.

The CMA nominations will be announced in two different events today. The Band Perry and Jake Owen will be on Good Morning America, and later Jerrod Niemann and Thompson Square will be at the Ryman Auditorium, announcing more categories. Jake also performs "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" on Good Morning America this morning. And congratulations to Jake Owen, who has his first #1 song with BBJN. Jake's song is #1 on the Country Aircheck chart, and Brad & Carrie hold #1 on the Billboard Country chart for the second week.

Happy birthday to David Allen Coe (72) Mel McDaniel (69) Jeff Foxworthy (53) and Mark Chesnutt (48).

The tweet of the day is from James Otto: "Waking up with a headache & not even having had a drink the night before is just lame."
