Today's Country Tidbits

The ACM Award nominations were announced yesterday and Miranda Lambert leads the list of potential winners with seven nominations. Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band each have five, The Band Perry and Taylor Swift are tied with four and Lady Antebellum, Lee Brice, Easton Corbin, Alan Jackson and Keith Urban each have three nominations. For the complete list, scroll down to the previous post. The 46th Annual ACM Awards will air live from Las Vegas on April 3rd, with hosts Reba and Blake Shelton. How did Miranda react to all the nominations?

Blake's not just co-hosting, he's nominated in two categories at the ACM's - Top Male Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year for "Hilbilly Bone" with Trace Adkins. He says he's not nervous about the nominatins, calling them awesome, but that he's really nervous about co-hosting the show. Maybe he's also nervous about being part of the show as Miranda Lambert either has a really good night or not. Her seven nominations include Top Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year. She's blown away by the nomination in that category.

It's very strange to look at the nominations for Top Vocal Duo of the Year and not see Brooks and Dunn. They won't be totally missing from the show, though - Ronnie Dunn is going to be one of the performers that night. It'll be his first award show performance as a solo act, and he admits to some nerves. "Nothing new, pressure you know. I feel it every time I walk up there to do it hoping that I can do that vocal."

And speaking of awards, congrats to Kenny Chesney, who was named the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame's Tennessean of the Year. The award "honors an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to our society through sports or other methods, demonstrating strong character and high profile leadership," Tennessee Sports Hall president Bill Emendorfer said. Kenny's work on his football documentary as well as his donations of that documentary to 10,000 high school football coaches to use as a teaching tool for the teams were the leading reason for the honor.

Ottowans got a big surprise Sunday night. Brad Paisley was in town for a sold-out show, and when he started doing "Alcohol" during his encore, Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher, who plays for the Ottowa Senators hockey team, joined Brad onstage. And the crowd went wild, of course!

Sometimes volunteers don't do right. At an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Middleburg, Florida on Saturday, tv producers had to scramble to find more volunteers to take over the jobs some of their other volunteer workers abandoned. The reason for the AWOL volunteers? They left to go to a George Strait concert, promising to return but reneging on their promise. The house is being built for a couple who took in two children after their parents passed away.

And on a historical note, it was on this day in 1981 that George Strait recorded his very first hit, "Unwound," at Music City Music Hall in Nashville.

And on another, non-country-music-related historical note, it was on this day in 1887 that people first gathered at Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania to see if Punxsatawney Phil saw his shadow on Groundhog's Day. He predicted a long winter that year.

Taylor Swift and American Greetings have 43 new ways to say "I love you" this Valentine's Day. Between cards available at retailers like Target and Wal-Mart and e-cards available on their site, there's surely a perfect card for the one you love that loves Taylor Swift.

Keith Urban and John Mayer will team up for another show, this one to raise money for the Tiger Woods Foundation. The April 30th Tiger Jam will be at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, with the $70 tickets going on sale February 12th at Ticketmaster.

It's winter now, but the summer festivals are announcing their line-ups and getting set for huge crowds. The RapidsJam Music Festival at Roanoke Rapids, NC is set for June 16 through 18 and they expect 100,000 fans and campers at the Thursday through Saturday party.
